Artificial intelligence is becoming part of ordinary business operations, from customer support and document review to coding assistance, forecasting, fraud monitoring and internal search.
The appeal is clear: AI systems can process large volumes of information, support faster workflows and help employees reduce repetitive work. But adoption also creates risks involving data privacy, cybersecurity, bias, accuracy, documentation and accountability.
NIST’s AI Risk Management Framework encourages organizations to identify, measure and manage AI risks rather than treating the technology as automatically trustworthy. CISA and other cybersecurity agencies also warn that digital systems require constant attention to vulnerabilities, configuration and supply-chain exposure.
Businesses should be clear about where AI is used, what data it can access, who reviews important outputs, and how errors or harmful outcomes are handled. Employees also need practical training so they know when a tool is appropriate and when it is not.
The companies that gain the most from AI are likely to be the ones that treat adoption as a management discipline, not merely a software purchase.
