INDIANAPOLIS | Court documents cited by WTHR allege that a social-media meetup for a gun sale preceded the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Tre'Von Riggins on Indianapolis' northeast side, turning what investigators describe as an arranged transaction into a murder case now moving through Marion County court.
WTHR reported that 18-year-old Dwight Knox has been charged with murder in connection with Riggins' death. According to the station's account of newly filed court documents, the case centers on an alleged meeting arranged through social media after Riggins and another person planned to buy a gun.
The shooting was first reported in March near the 3900 block of Rue Rebelais, near 56th Street and Binford Boulevard. WTHR previously reported that Riggins' grandfather, Ottis Riggins, identified the victim and described him as a 15-year-old who had been trying to turn his life around.
The case is an Indianapolis public-safety story, not a Chicago bureau item. It also fits a broader pattern local reporters have documented around youth violence, firearms and social media. Axios Indianapolis and Chalkbeat Indiana previously reported that social media appeared in more than one-third of youth gun-homicide cases they reviewed from Marion County court records, showing how online contacts, conflicts and transactions can move quickly into real-world violence.
The criminal case remains pending, and the allegations in court documents have not been tested at trial. CGN News is not naming additional unsupported details beyond the public reporting and will watch for future filings, hearings or statements from court officials, prosecutors, defense counsel or police.
