BATON ROUGE | Baton Rouge police are investigating the death of 15-year-old Suhib Yousef after authorities said the Liberty High School student was found shot near Poplar Street and Lee Drive in the Southdowns area.
What happened
WAFB reported that the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Suhib Yousef, 15. According to WAFB, Baton Rouge police said a shots-fired call came in around 11 p.m. Wednesday, and a male body was found several hours later off Poplar Street and Lee Drive.
WBRZ reported that Yousef’s body was found around 2 a.m. Thursday and that people in the area initially thought the teen had been struck by a car before police said he had been shot. WBRZ also reported that police were investigating the case as a homicide and had not identified a suspect or motive.
Why it matters
The death of a 15-year-old student affects more than one neighborhood. It reaches a family, a school community and residents who live near the Southdowns streets where police are now gathering evidence. A homicide investigation involving a minor also requires careful public language because many key facts remain unconfirmed.
The confirmed public record at this stage is limited. Police have not released what led up to the shooting, and no suspect or motive had been announced in the source reporting. CGN News is not adding any theory about who was responsible or why the shooting happened.
What remains unclear
Investigators have not publicly explained what happened before the shooting, whether the victim was targeted or whether police have identified witnesses. It also remains unclear when police may release additional information or ask the public for help.
Because the case involves a death and an active homicide investigation, later updates should be checked against police statements, coroner information, school district statements and court records if any arrest is made.
What to watch next
Watch for Baton Rouge Police Department updates, coroner statements, school district communication and any public request for tips. The next meaningful development would be a named suspect, an arrest, a confirmed motive or new evidence released by investigators.
