INDIANAPOLIS | CGN News is publishing the 3 July 2026 Traffic Advisory for drivers using CGN Traffic Center coverage in Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, Baton Rouge, Miami, Los Angeles, New York City and Philadelphia.

AAA projects 72.2 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the Independence Day travel period, including 61.4 million by car. AAA and INRIX list Friday, 3 July, from noon to 7 p.m. as one of the worst national road-travel windows, with travel before 11 a.m. listed as the better Friday option.

This advisory does not report a specific crash, police activity, emergency closure, lane restriction or detour unless it is supported by an official transportation source at publication time. Live traffic changes quickly. Drivers should check official state 511 and DOT systems before leaving, then avoid using phones or camera pages while driving.

Indianapolis

Status: Holiday-volume and construction watch. Indianapolis drivers should pay particular attention to I-465, I-65, I-70, I-69, I-74 and downtown approaches. INDOT and 511IN are the controlling official source families for Indiana traffic speeds, road conditions, closures, restrictions and construction.

511IN lists the Washington Street entrance ramp in Indianapolis as closed for long-term road construction until late November. That makes downtown route-checking important before drivers commit to I-65, I-70 or surface-street approaches. CGN News is not reporting an unverified active crash or emergency closure in this advisory.

Chicago

Status: Expressway and construction watch. Chicago drivers should check official Illinois and regional systems before using I-90, I-94, I-55, I-290, I-294, the Kennedy, Dan Ryan, Eisenhower, Edens and downtown lakefront routes. IDOT points drivers to Getting Around Illinois for road construction and traveler information, while Travel Midwest supports regional travel-time and corridor monitoring.

The practical concern is corridor choice. A slowdown on a major expressway can shift pressure to parallel arterial roads or tollway routes, especially during holiday departures and stormy weather. Check official maps before leaving and give work zones extra space.

St. Louis

Status: Heat, bridge and work-zone watch. St. Louis travel depends heavily on I-64, I-44, I-55, I-70, I-270 and Mississippi River bridge approaches. MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map includes traffic impacts, flooding, work zones, traffic cameras and weather layers.

Bridge approaches and interstate merges remain the key planning points. A work zone, stall, crash or weather-related slowdown near a river crossing can affect Missouri and Metro East travel quickly. Drivers should check MoDOT and Illinois systems before using cross-river routes.

Baton Rouge

Status: Bridge and interstate watch. Baton Rouge drivers should check I-10, I-12, I-110, Airline-area corridors and Mississippi River Bridge approaches before departure. Louisiana 511 provides real-time traveler information, including travel times, traffic accident details, cameras, message signs, movable bridges and road work.

The City-Parish traffic resources page also points residents to current incidents, road closures, traffic flow and state cameras. CGN News is not reporting a specific Baton Rouge emergency closure in this advisory.

Miami

Status: Expressway, causeway and event-volume watch. Miami-area drivers should check FL511 before using I-95, Florida’s Turnpike, the Dolphin Expressway, the Palmetto Expressway, MacArthur Causeway and Julia Tuttle Causeway. FL511 describes itself as Florida’s official source for real-time traffic information and provides travel times, traffic accident details, traffic cameras and road-condition information.

Holiday traffic, airport travel, beach access and event traffic can change causeway and expressway travel times quickly. Plan the route before entering traffic, not while driving.

Los Angeles

Status: Freeway speed and lane-closure watch. Los Angeles drivers should check I-5, I-10, I-405, US-101, SR-110 and SR-60 before longer trips. Caltrans QuickMap provides real-time transportation information, including traffic cameras, lane closures and road conditions.

For holiday travel, the useful question is not only whether a freeway is open, but whether speeds, lane closures or incident markers make an alternate route safer. Check QuickMap before departure and follow posted signs and CHP direction.

New York City

Status: Bridge, tunnel, special-event and collision watch. New York City drivers should check 511NY, NYC DOT cameras and MTA bridge and tunnel information before using the FDR Drive, West Side Highway, BQE, Cross Bronx Expressway, Long Island Expressway, bridges or tunnels. NYC DOT says 511NY’s real-time map includes information from NYSDOT, NYC DOT and the New York State Thruway Authority.

Network sensitivity is the main issue. A collision, tunnel delay, special event or bridge restriction can affect several boroughs and nearby suburban routes. Drivers should plan for delays and consider transit when practical.

Philadelphia

Status: I-95, I-76 and event-area watch. Philadelphia drivers should check 511PA before using I-95, I-76, I-676, the Schuylkill Expressway, Vine Street Expressway, Roosevelt Boulevard or Pennsylvania Turnpike access. PennDOT says 511PA provides delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA event guidance for Philadelphia notes that major routes into the city include I-95 and I-76 and that drivers should expect heavy congestion around Center City and the stadium district during event days. Drivers attending events should pre-plan parking and leave extra time.

Important safety note

Do not use live maps, traffic cameras or mobile advisory pages while driving. Check conditions before departure, ask a passenger to monitor official sources, or pull over safely before using a phone. Traffic advisories are planning tools, not a substitute for posted signs, police direction, local emergency instructions or safe driving.

What This Means

For readers, Friday is a route-checking day. AAA and INRIX identify noon to 7 p.m. as the worst national driving window, and official DOT systems remain the best source for live incidents, construction, closures, restrictions and camera-supported congestion.

The next thing to watch is local 511 and DOT updates before each trip. Holiday traffic, heat, thunderstorms, events and work zones can change travel times quickly, especially around downtown approaches, bridges, tunnels, expressways and stadium districts.
