INDIANAPOLIS | Central Indiana will get a mostly manageable Mother's Day weekend, but cooler air and midweek rain chances remain part of the forecast.
The National Weather Service Indianapolis forecast discussion issued Saturday afternoon called for isolated showers this evening into early Sunday, with a few rumbles of thunder possible northeast of Indianapolis. The discussion also noted additional rain and storm chances late Tuesday and Tuesday night.
For families planning dinner, church, travel or outdoor visits, the message is practical: keep an eye on the sky this evening, but do not treat the weekend as a washout. Have a backup plan for outdoor gatherings and check the latest forecast before longer drives.
Temperatures are expected to stay seasonably cool through midweek before much warmer air arrives by next weekend. That means jackets may still be useful for early mornings, evening events and outdoor seating.
Tuesday is the next period to watch more closely. Rain and thunderstorms can affect the evening commute, school events, sports practices and late-day errands. If the forecast holds, central Indiana residents should plan for wet roads and possible delays.
As always, use official alerts for warnings and watches. A general forecast can guide planning, but warnings should be followed immediately when issued.
